Outward joins forces with Googym to promote exercise AND volunteering
1st July 2016
Outward has joined forces with a charity called Goodgym, which run exercise groups that do good in the local community as a way to keep fit. It promotes fitness and does good in the local community by completing physical tasks for local community partners.
In February we held a taster session in Hackney. Ten Outward customers from Waltham Forest, Hackney, Islington and Tower Hamlets took part. We started at Rose Court, one of our older people's services, and did a power walk and relay races in a local public square. We then hot-footed back to Rose Court to re-varnish some benches in the garden. Once we'd completed the task, we then did some warm down exercises.
Customers all said that they really enjoyed the session. Joel the Goodgym personal trainer commented on what a brilliant group Outward was and that he's looking forward to the next sessions
We are now working in partnership with Goodgym to roll out sessions across other Boroughs that we work in. We are hoping to start in Islington, Waltham Forest and Hackney, followed by Enfield and Tower Hamlets.
Throughout May, June and July, we have held one Goodgym session every Tuesday, with more and more Outward customers donning their jogging bottoms and getting involved.
