Co-trainers are individuals who collaborate with professional trainers to co-deliver training sessions. They bring their personal experiences and perspectives to the training, working alongside the trainers to provide a more comprehensive and insightful learning experience for participants/new staff.
We have 11 people we support from 10 different services who are trained to be Co-Trainers.
Our Co-Trainers are involved in a variety of different ways:
Welcome Days:
A Co-Trainer will try to attend all Welcome Days for new staff. They will speak to staff about what it means to be a good support worker and what things aren’t very helpful. It’s an interactive experience which gets the new starters starting to think about how they would support the Co-Trainer based on information they are given, preparing them for their own roles.
Recruitment Support:
We encourage all services to have a person they support on a panel when interviewing new staff. This could be done in a couple of different ways, such as actually asking potential new staff interview questions and grading them afterwards, or a person we support could be involved in an activity that’s observed by hiring staff.
For roles at the main office, the Co-Production team will put together a 2 or 3 person panel made up of our Co-Trainers. Co-trainers will ask a variety of questions catered to the role the person is applying for and then after the interview will discuss and give their feedback. This feedback is then given to the hiring manager and is taken into account when making a hiring decision.
