On 25 February 2025, Outward’s CEO, Nicky Boland, along with our Directors and the people we support, attended the ProvidersUnite Day of Action at Parliament. The event aimed to highlight the critical role of social care in our society and the need for sustainable funding.
The Outward staff, together with hundreds of social care providers, service users and families, marched peacefully from Church House to Parliament Square Garden in the morning. The rally participants held signs emphasising the importance of the adult social care sector for vulnerable individuals receiving services, the economy and society in general.
Why Day of Action
The social care sector faces significant challenges, including funding issues and rising operational costs. The ProvidersUnite campaign aims to address these concerns and advocate for meaningful change in the sector. According to think tank Nuffield Trust’s estimation, the autumn Budget 2024 introduced measures that will cost independent care providers in England an extra £2.8bn in 2025-26, consisting of £940m in additional National Insurance and £1.85bn in wage increases.
Funding social care is crucial for ensuring the continued provision of high-quality care to vulnerable individuals who rely on these services. The campaign is calling on the government to review the measures in the Autumn Budget regarding Social Care. Funding Social Care isn’t an expense, it’s an investment.
