Date posted:12th December 2019

Job description:

We are looking for a committed and knowledgeable volunteer who would be willing to adapt their current knowledge around either Sepsis and or Constipation to convey in a creative way to a Support and Care scheme, whether Supported Living or Residential Care. The volunteer would either deliver this through an accessible tangible guide, or through drama/music/other creative means.

Raising awareness of Sepsis and Constipation is a vital area, which is highlighted in the Learning Disability Mortality Review Programme (LeDeR). With the positive support of a Health Awareness Volunteer, we hope to reach as many people we support and staff as possible to create a healthy dialogue around these key areas.

About us

Outward is a registered charity, part of The Newlon Group, set up in Waltham Forest in 1975 by a group of parents who were keen for their children with learning disabilities to live their lives outside of institutional care; ‘out of the wards’.

We provide care and support services across North, East and South London to give vulnerable people better choices and greater independence. These include:

  • Young people who have experienced street homelessness
  • Young people in housing need, including those leaving care
  • Older people who need support and care
  • People with learning disabilities
  • People with autism spectrum disorder
  • People with mental health issues

We employ over 450 staff and support over 1000 vulnerable adults within their communities. We are committed to providing quality care and support to those who need it. Everything we do is underpinned by a core philosophy of tailoring support to meet individual need.

Outward is an Investors in Volunteers accredited organisation and this means that we meet national standards around involving volunteers in our organisation. We recognise the valuable contribution that volunteers make to Outward and work hard to ensure volunteers receive high-quality support in their placements.

Regular support from an on-site Volunteer Supervisor and the Volunteer Manager.

Quarterly volunteer forums and volunteer celebration events.

Reimbursement of travel expenses (£5 cap per day) and lunch expenses if volunteering for over 5 hours.

Substantial and specific training around social care and the specific needs of the people you are volunteering with.

Opportunities to progress within Outward.
